I get your weekly recipe posts and I have to tell you how much I love them. I enjoy each week's random thoughts and musings paired with a (sometimes surprising) recipe. This week's column vibrated deep within me, bringing back similar memories of my mother and all her saved recipes. Plus, the seafood casserole!! We are planning to have a retro dinner with this dish as the star. Thank-you for the inspiration.
Maria, your comment means so much! I love when it hear how people are reacting to certain stories and recipes, I did just make a couple of tweaks to the recipe, so be sure to check out the post for the most up to date version. I think you will love it❤️
Thanks Betty! I have to say it's got me going down a bit of a rabbit hole. So many women I've never heard of, with fascinating stories. Thinking it could be fun to do an occasional series on some of them. And YES to the casserole--really easy and delicious. You should give it a try 😊
Thanks for sharing a new/old home cook’s story. I’ve been researching so many vintage cookbooks for a writing project, and struck by the homemaker tips in each of them, as you mentioned.
Thank you Amie! I always look forward to your posts and your mother's wonderful writing. What a gift for you to have her words to share and to add your own continuing story to tell.
Love this post. Love all your posts (the photography, the writing style and of course tge content) but i especially love this because I have quite a library of cookbooks. The old ones are precious even though I use NYT Cooking quite a lot. I love the memories that accompany the recipes in old, stained cookbooks.
Older cookbooks have a depth that’s rare today—thoughtful, precise, and rich in tradition. More than just recipes, they offer a true sense of life. Love your post !

What a fun read! I have to say, Meta Given sounds like a very modern name for a movie character, lol. And wow, that seafood casserole looks amazing!

Love this! My mother also clipped Mary Moore recipes - this post brought back such lovely memories. Thank you ❤️

Thank you Mahita! Who knew we shared this passion? The stories to share and the conversations we could have had...
